The Friedkin Group’s Auberge Collection enters Africa by uniting two conservation-led operators under one umbrella, offering travellers a seamless journey across Tanzania’s most iconic wilderness areas.

Key points

  • Auberge Safari launches with nine camps and lodges across Tanzania, marking Auberge Collection’s first African expansion
  • The collection unites Legendary Expeditions and Chem Chem Safari under one brand
  • The nine sites span over 600,000 acres of Tanzanian wilderness

Auberge Collection has expanded into Africa with the launch of Auberge Safari, a portfolio of nine camps and lodges spanning Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. The announcement was made on 4 May 2026.

The collection brings together two conservation-led safari operators – the Friedkin Group’s Legendary Expeditions and privately-owned Chem Chem Safari – under a single umbrella. The move allows travellers to book a connected journey across Tanzania’s northern circuit, from the sweeping savannahs of the Serengeti to the wildlife corridors of Lake Manyara.

A Union of Purpose and Place

« Legendary Expeditions has long set the standard for conservation-driven safari experiences, and Auberge Collection brings an equally strong commitment to place and purpose, » said Dan Friedkin, Chairman of Auberge Collection and CEO of the Friedkin Group. « Together, they represent a meaningful evolution – one that strengthens our ability to protect these landscapes, while offering guests a more connected way to explore them. »

Each property retains its own distinct character while embracing Auberge’s approach to soulful, place-driven hospitality. Collectively, they span approximately 600,000 acres across the Greater Mwiba Protected Wildlife Area, the Burunge Wildlife Management Area, and multiple zones of the Serengeti ecosystem.

A shared sensibility for connection

Fabia Bausch, owner of Chem Chem Safari, pointed to the shared philosophy that underpins the partnership. « What drew us to Auberge is a shared sensibility – a deep respect for place, and an understanding that true luxury lies in connection, not excess, » she said. « Slow Safari was never about doing less. It was about feeling more. »

The Auberge Safari portfolio comprises:

  • Mwiba Lodge — Greater Mwiba Protected Wildlife Area
  • Mwiba Plains — Greater Mwiba Protected Wildlife Area
  • Mila — Nyasirori, Western Serengeti
  • Nyasi — Lamai, Northern Serengeti
  • Songa — Kogatende, Northern Serengeti
  • Legendary Lodge — Arusha
  • Chem Chem Lodge — Burunge Wildlife Management Area
  • Little Chem Chem — Burunge Wildlife Management Area
  • Forest Chem Chem — Burunge Wildlife Management Area
